Large Open Space In Front Of Terraced Houses Provides Leisure Facilities For Play And Origami.
There was a wide open area in front of the terraced houses where Wen used to live, and this was his play area during his childhood. During his visit to his old home, one of his nephews gathered with some of his young friends at a table, some to play cards and talk about the happenings of the day, probably including that of Wen's visit, and one of the friends was busy with his hands making small origami models including those of birds and boats.
This long wide courtyard fronting the houses was an ideal play area for the children, and Wen's two young sons made go use of it, enjoying their new experiences, although probably both being too young to realise how important this visit was to their father. In later years they will hopefully see some of the photos taken during the time that Wen made his journey going back home. ![]()
One of the tasks that Wen took upon himself when he visited his old home was to use a besom to brush up the dust and fallen leaves on the open courtyard in front of the terraced houses. This was a task he often undertook when he was living in his home in China, but a task that his own children would unlikely be required to carry out.
