Wen's old home to which he had returned, was not now occupied, but inside the rooms there were reminders for him of the times when he grew up in the mountain village, where his family shared the home with his cousins and their parents. The rooms in the home were not very big but they all had a special attraction for him, and he spoke of how both the families lived happily together, despite the lack of all the facilities that would be expected in a modern home, wherever it was situated.

Some of the items still on display in the small room at the front of the house, made it feel like home, with vases on a sideboard near the window, and childrens' shoes on the shelves below. By looking through the window it was possible to view all the activites going on in front of the terraced houses, although at the time that Wen went back home, there were only some of his family and friends to be seen. One of the terraced houses near Wen's old home was still occupied so he took both his children with him and went to visit this family; it was a very happy reunion after many years away.

The open doors of houses in this terrace was a sure sign that it was still a family home. Neighbours and friends freely walked in and out of the houses of their own family and friends, thus enhancing the community spirit that was a valuable part of life, and there was also someone to share your time with, and to depend on whenever it was needed. Perhaps this is the part of family life that is sadly lacking in the modern tower blocks of the developing cities and towns.
