Picture Of Wooden Terraced Houses To Which Returning Home Was A Special Event.

We traveled by car on a new winding road from the city up the mountain to the hometown where Wen was born and grew up. He was now going back home. He had talked a lot about his life in his hometown, about his family, and the friends he had left behind when he went to seek his fortune elsewhere. He knew that one day he would return to his hometown, and from all the news that had been passed to him while he was away, he knew that in going back home he would see many changes to the hometown he had left.

His home was in a row of terraced houses built of wood and his home was shared with another family, that of his cousin. Nobody now lived in his home, as both his mother and his aunty had moved to new modern apartments in the city. Few of the homes in the old terrace were now occupied, and the terrace itself was the subject of a protection order to preserve some of the old features of the town. Some other old houses in the town had been bought by city people, and these old houses had been demolished and replaced with modern two or three storey buildings. The modern architecture contrasted sharply with the style of the old home to which Wen was returning.

Wen's cousin had said that going back home, to the place where you were born and grew up, is a longing in the heart and mind that is difficult to explain, to anyone who has not had the same experience. Going back home for Wen was something he had often talked about, and on this particular day, his wish had become a reality.
