Children Play On Bicycle Trailer Near Beach Restaurant.
Bicyle Trailer Used As Safe Place For Chinese Children To Play.
After we had finished our lunch at the beach restaurant of the Three Sisters Bay, we decided to take a walk down the path of the village. We soon came to a group of three women at the side of the path, who were weaving fishnets by hand. Strangely enough, this is what the three fairies used to do in the legend of the bay, whilst their husbands went fishing. Near to the women was a bicycle to which was attached a trailer, and in the trailer were three children, enjoying themselves in a game that only they would have understood. Michael started talking to the children, and the young girl quite confidently responded to his questions, about their names and ages. My friends started talking to the women nearby, who were keeping a watchful eye on the children, and they were asked whether we could take the children home with us. The response was that the young girl could come with us, but not the two boys. Of course we did not even attempt to do it, nor would we have been allowed to do so !
The restriction of one child per family affects most people in China, although there is some easing of the rules when minority groups are involved. Because of all the ancient customs and traditions of China, the married couples in China in the present age, prefer their first and only child to be a boy, so that the family name will be carried forward to the next generation. Of course this does not always happen.
