When Xu said he would take us to the seaside near Qinzhou we were not sure what we would see there but it was something new to experience in South China. The road from Nanning to the Three Sisters Bay near Qinzhou was through some beautiful scenery, enhanced by a day that was dry and sunny. The name of the bay is based on a legend about three fairies who were given permission to visit the bay, and who subsequently fell in love with three men living there.
They had a happy life with their husbands and children, but refused to return to the heavens after their alloted time. Their heavenly emperor was not pleased and on a day when their husbands were out fishing, he created a storm through which the husbands did not survive. The fairies waited in vain on the bay for their return. and eventually turned into three stones, still waiting for their husbands.
The seas of the Three Sisters Bay is also known as a gathering point for the Chinese White Dolphins, particularly in the months of October and November, although we did not see any during our short stay. At the end of the pier that reaches out from the beach, is a stone model of three dolphins, as if they were jumping out of the sea. The car journey from Nanning to the Three Sisters Bay near Qinzhou took about two hours, and it was a journey that would take us to see something new and exciting.
