Oriental Pearl Tower Top Deck Provides Spectacular Views Of Pudong, Shanghai On A Misty Day.
Looking Down On Pudong Shanghai From The Top Of The Oriental Pearl Tower.
The view from the top observation deck of the Oriental Pearl Tower, that we reached by the use of two lifts, was undoubtedly spectacular, even though the distant views from the tower were marred by mist. The tower itself is said to be the third tallest in the world, and for most of the visitors to the Pearl Tower, the designing and construction of such a magnificent attraction would be beyond comprehension. A group of tall office and residential blocks viewed from the observation deck of the Pearl Tower, were as small in comparison, as the cars and people were small to the office block residents. From the Pearl Tower, the cars below looked like ants, and the people the size of pin heads. The workmen who built the Oriental Pearl Tower must have had good heads for height, but they would have seen views of Shanghai and the surrounding area, grow wider and wider, as they moved from one section of construction to a higher level.
The day we went up the tower was not the clearest day of our visit to Shanghai, but Michael told me that on a clear day the views were more spectacular. From the top of the tower we had excellent views of the boats and ships on the Huangpo River, and also a bird's eye view of our Oriental Riverside Hotel, and the restaurant nearby. As we walked around the top observation deck, different parts of Pudong and other areas of Shanghai came into view. When we came back down to the main deck of the tower, there was an exhibition to be seen of models of Chinese people of ancient China, dressed in robes that are not seen much in the present age. The models looked very lifelike, so I do not think anyone would have been surprised, if they had said, ''Hello !'' or had moved away to make themselves a cup of tea! Our visit to the Pearl Tower had certainly been one of discovery!
