Shaolin Temple Students Stand On Rock Near Pagoda Forest . Visitor Gets Kung Fu Lesson.
Whilst we were at the Shaolin Temple, we walked up the road from the Temple entrance to the Pagoda Forest, which is the burial ground for many Buddhist Abbots, including the revered late Grand Master Su Xi. We were escorted during this visit by the two students who had been instructed by Xing Du to be our 'keepers'! I never seemed to say their Chinese names properly so I gave them English names. In the photo 'Andrew' is on the left and 'Billy' is on the right, and they are shown here standing on a rock near the entrance to the Pagoda Forest.
Zhong Guang wanted to learn some Kung Fu whilst he had the opportunity of being shown by Billy, some of the basic positions. Most of the positions have their own discriptive title, but the name of the one being demonstrated in the picture is unknown. Whilst Billy was showing some of the positions to Zhong Guang he was overseen by his friend Andrew. These Kung Fu 'lessons' at the Pagoda Forest soon became the attraction of other visitors, and some even took photos!
Shaolin Students Stand In Temple Hall By Framed Stele. Use Of Bunk Bed By Visitor To Shaolin Temple.
The day we visited the Pagoda Forest was cold, but bright and sunny, however on the following day the weather decided to be troublesome, so it rained!. It was the day that Xing Du had a group of visitors to escort, and Billy had some lessons to attend, so another student joined my 'entourage' whom I named 'John'. Whilst Xing Du and his group were being given waterproof coats and hoods, for their tour of the Temple grounds, John went to collect two umbrellas, so that he and Andrew could prevent the rain from annoying me!We spent some time in the restaurant having some hot drinks before we ventured out into the rain. In the photo John and Andrew are standing by the collection of tablets, that are inscribed with pictures and Chinese characters. The whole area had been redecorated since my last visit so all the pictures and patterns painted on the ceiling were clean and colourful.
Whatever the weather and wherever I may be, a bed always attracts me in the afternoons, so that I can doze for a short while, to give my mind and body a rest! Whilst at the Shaolin Temple I was making use of a bunkbed in Xing Du's room. The windows in the room are always wide open, so I made use of anything I could find to use as blankets. During my 'slumber time' Andrew was always 'on guard' in the room, either reading or watching television.
